What Is A Ready-Mix Concrete Plant?

2026-10-27 17:12:07

A ready-mix concrete plant is a comprehensive industrial system designed for the production of ready-mix concrete. It integrates the precise proportioning and forced mixing of aggregates (sand and gravel), cementitious materials, water, and chemical admixtures, the finished concrete is then transported to construction sites via specialized vehicles. Ready-mix concrete is defined as concrete that is proportioned and mixed at a batching plant and delivered to the point of use in a mixed state; the equipment used for this process is known as a ready-mix concrete plant. These concrete batching plants are designed and manufactured in compliance with the national standard and serve as the primary production infrastructure in modern construction, replacing manual, on-site mixing methods.

what is a ready mix concrete plant

A complete set of ready mix concrete plant consists of five functional subsystems that work in coordination to execute a closed-loop production process.

The aggregate batching and conveying system utilizes a multi-compartment batcher to store aggregates of various particle sizes, with an enclosed skirted belt conveyor used to elevate the materials—typically set at an incline of 18° to 23°. The cumulative dynamic weighing error for aggregates is maintained at ≤±2%.

The powder storage and conveying system comprises vertical cylindrical silos and tubular screw conveyors, designed to store cementitious materials such as cement, fly ash, and ground granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBS). Individual silo capacities range from 50 to 1,000 tons, with a cumulative weighing error for powder materials of ≤±1%.

The core mixing system features a standard twin-shaft forced-action mixer. For standard-strength concrete, the mixing time per batch is at least 30 seconds, while for high-strength concrete (C50 and above) or specialty concrete, the mixing time is extended by an additional 20–30 seconds to ensure uniform material blending.

The metering and control system utilizes electronic weighing and a fully automated central control architecture, with water and admixtures measured independently. The cumulative dynamic error is kept to ≤±1%, and production data is recorded and stored for every single batch, meeting requirements for construction quality traceability.

Environmental protection systems—including pulse-jet dust collectors on silos, enclosed material storage sheds, and three-stage wastewater recovery units—effectively control dust and sewage emissions, aligning with green production standards.

The industry standard for naming the ready mix concrete plants is the "HZS" series, where the suffix number represents the equipment's theoretical hourly production capacity in cubic meters.

Small-scale ready mix concrete plants (HZS25 to HZS60, with a theoretical capacity of 25–60 m³/h) are suited for rural infrastructure and smaller construction projects.

Medium-scale ready mix concrete plants (HZS90 and HZS120, with a theoretical capacity of 90–120 m³/h) are typically used for commercial concrete supply in county-level regions and for medium-sized infrastructure projects.

Large-scale ready mix concrete plants (such as the HZS180 and HZS240, with a theoretical capacity of 180–240 m³/h) serve major urban commercial concrete markets and large-scale infrastructure projects.

Due to operational factors—such as intervals in material feeding or waiting times during discharge—the actual stable production capacity is approximately 85%–90% of the theoretical value. When selecting equipment, it is advisable to include a capacity buffer of at least 10% to accommodate peak demand.

Compared to manual on-site mixing, a ready mix concrete plant reduces raw material waste by 8%–12%, keeps the coefficient of variation for concrete strength within 5%, and increases production efficiency by more than threefold. Furthermore, it significantly mitigates dust, noise, and wastewater pollution at construction sites.

Haomei Machinery has long specialized in HZS series of ready-mix concrete plants offers production capacities ranging from 25 to 240 m³/h. The core weighing components achieve a static accuracy of ±0.5%—surpassing standard industry benchmarks—while the main mixer features wear-resistant, high-chromium alloy liners capable of handling over 80,000 batches. We provides customized configurations tailored to specific regional operating conditions and environmental regulations. With over 1,000 units delivered globally, Haomei’s equipment is well-suited to the diverse requirements of markets across Southeast Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. The company also offers end-to-end support, including site planning, installation and commissioning, and operational training.
