Common problems in operating an asphalt batch mix plant include low productivity, unstable asphalt temperature and serious air pollution.
Reasons for Low and Unstable Productivity
A. Improper ratio of raw materials. Asphalt concrete mix ratio is divided into target mix ratio and production mix ratio. The former controls the sand and stone material cold material transport ratio, and the latter is the mixing ratio of various types of sand and stone materials in the asphalt concrete finished material specified in the design. The production mix ratio is determined by the laboratory and directly determines the field grading standards for finished asphalt concrete. The target mix ratio is set to further guarantee the production mix ratio, which can be adjusted appropriately according to the actual situation during production. When the target mix ratio or production mix ratio is not suitable, the stone materials stored in each measurement of the asphalt mixing station are disproportionate, and some overflow materials and some other materials cannot be weighed in time, and the mixing tank is idling, which reduces the output.
B. Low level material grading. Inappropriate feeding range of materials not only generates large amount of "waste" but also affects the output of an asphalt mixing plant. The production capacity of the drying cylinder of an asphalt batch mix plant is matched with the equipment model. When the water content in the sand and stone is too high, the drying capacity decreases, and the quantity of sand and stone material provided to the metering warehouse to reach the set temperature per unit time is less, which reduces productivity of the plant eventually.
Unstable Asphalt Temperature
Extremely low or high temperatures impacts productivity directly. They will lead to the occurrence of huge waste materials on site. Therefore, operators must be careful responsible enough to observe and measure temperatures frequently of the plant during operation.
If the temperature is too high or too low, it will affect the production, resulting in insufficient quality or a large amount of "waste" generated on site. This requires that during the production process of the asphalt mixing plant, relevant personnel must observe carefully, diligently measure, and have a high sense of quality responsibility.
Serious Air Pollution
Unusual dust might be generated by failures of the secondary dust removal system, and excessive contents of soil and dust in asphalt raw materials like sand and stones lead to serious air pollution, too.
